The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert as of today (December 12) at 8:45am affecting parts of the Thames Tidal area in south London.
Which areas are affected?
The flood alert covers the Thames Tidal area between Putney Bridge to Teddington Weir.
The following areas are affected:

- Kew
- Mortlake
- Barnes
- Putney

River levels are expected to be high due to spring tides, with the next high tide at 1:30 today (December 12), which could result in flooding of riverside roads as well as open spaces.
On the Environment Agency website, a statement read that astronomical tide levels are rising, with the river flow at Teddington Weir “high for this time of year” at 203 cubic metres per second and rising.
It is expected that the flow will remain high for several days and the Environment Agency are currently monitoring the situation, with further updates expected later today.
What to do
Residents in affected areas are being advised to monitor local water levels and weather conditions whilst flood alerts are in place, and to act on their flood plans.
People are also advised to avoid using low lying footpaths or entering areas prone to flooding.
